Grit Built

We help young people build character and provide for their future through well built backyard furniture

We pay each apprentice to create each piece. For every dollar they earn we also contribute a matching dollar that is saved for them to use to further their education.

Each piece is priced to cover the cost of materials, labor and savings match only.

In woodworking, to shape raw wood into a work of art, you start with coarse sandpaper measuring 40- to 60-grit; for smoothing surfaces and removing small imperfections, 80- to 120-grit sandpaper is perfect. For finishing surfaces smoothly, use a super fine sandpaper with 360- to 600-grit. Many jobs require you to “go through the grits.” This means you start the project using lower-grade grit and use finer pieces of sandpaper as you progress. Each time you advance to a higher grit sandpaper, you remove the scratches from the previous layer.

Grit Built is about assisting our apprentices in their personal growth, by providing an environment where they can learn skills, refine their talents, and build for a successful future.
